16TH WORLD STROKE CONGRESS

 " Every second 100 billion neurons in our brains are firing 5 - 50 messages, each one a vital spark of connection that ignites our unique identity, and writes the storeyof our life. But when stroke strikes, that storey is changed forever, " says World Stroke Organisation(WSO). The World Stroke Day(October 29) campaign seeks to channel the emotional power of sports to drive stroke awareness and motivate us to take action every day to reduce Stroke risk. Healthy Working Environment as a Catalist to Sound Mental Health

  On the occasion of World Mental Health Day(October 10), World Health Organisation(WHO) says safe, healthy working environment can act as a protective factor for mental health. Unhealthy workplace conditions, including stigma, discrimination, and exposure to risks like harassment, can pose significant risks, affecting mental health, the overall quality of life and consequently, participation or productivity at work. WHO says with 60 per cent of the global population is at work, urgent action is needed to ensure that work poses no risks to mental health. The WHO notes that depression and anxiety  costs the global economy an estimated  $1 trillion per year. The global body also recommends  that people take steps to support their own mental health, such as learning stress management techniques and reaching out for support when needed. Why Dock Workers are on Strike in the U S A?

  The dock workers' strike in the US is the result of  labour dispute between the Internationl Longshoremen's Association(ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance(USMX), according to the media reports. According to the Reuters report, the ILA representing 45,000 port workers, is demanding better wages and job protection against automation.  Reports quoting union representatives claim that employers such as container ship operator Maersk, haven't offered sufficient pay increase or agreed to stop automation projects that threaten jobs. The strike, which began on October 1, 2024, has halted the flow of about half the country's ocean shipping, affecting dozens of ports from Maine to Taxes, according to the New York Times report.
